Luis "The Lion" Garcia makes his UK debut fighting his 4th professional fight against Michael Gbenga of Nigeria. Winning convincingly on points (80 - 72) after a full eight round contest, Luis showed the assembled Tyneside crowd why he is tipped for the top. Pre-fight commentary positioned the fight as a tough contest for Garcia particularly as Gbenga is an experienced opponent and came out of a Commonwealth title fight where he went the distance. However, Garcia proved once again in his short but so far explosive career why former pro Spencer Fearon says, "no doubt he can be a world champion." Boxing News 16th January, 2009.
